Hermit Thrushes Slides (2013)

In November 2013 I painted eighty-two 35mm slides and brought them on tour with my band, Hermit Thrushes. At each show we projected two static slides and one carousel of eighty slides that our viola player, Andrew Keller, advanced using a remote that he pressed with his foot throughout our set. The projector setup was tailored to each performance space – a mix of art galleries, bars, colleges, coffee shops – but always included two static images and one that changed at irregular, improvised intervals.
A selection of these slides was published in March 2015 in Canyon Cinemazine Issue #3, a San Francisco Bay Area periodical focused on underground and independent film/video practice and theory. The theme of this issue was “sound,” and it included a special flexi disc! I was happy to have one of my images chosen for the cover of the zine as well as to be featured alongside so many artists who I admire.
